Durga Das and Harisudha live in Glastonbury, England, they have been singing and playing bhajans, or devotional songs, since about 1984. It is part of their daily spiritual practice. They were attracted to this music through their friends Ambika and Gopal Hari, in their band “Goma”, one of the first western bands to make concerts and recordings of eastern chanting in an accessible western style. Durga Das played drum and cymbals with them for many years.
Some of their chants originate from the Kumaon in Northwest India as well as chants that come from Kerala in South India and other regions.
Durga Das also leads the puja ceremonies waking at 3am daily during the gathering to prepare and share this practice with us.
